Creative Mornings Australia

posted in Design, Events, by Zann St Pierre on 23rd January 2012 Creative Mornings Australia

CreativeMornings is a monthly breakfast lecture series for creative types. Each event is free of charge and includes a 20 minute talk over coffee.

Unfortunately, if you wished to attend a lecture currently you would need to travel overseas. However, Marie Agudera of BMF is actively seeking volunteers to help establish our very own Australian chapter.

If you feel that you can lend some time to help the creative community please contact her and help keep the application rolling. Marie is specifically looking for videography/photography to help capture the event but I am sure any help would be greatly appreciated.

Email Marie here.

The Blind Kid

posted in Art, Design, Illustration, by Damien Aistrope on 19th January 2012 The Blind Kid

I have no doubt you have seen Brandon Els work before, be it on Trunk Junk, a skateboard or even a t-shirt. The boy works hard and the results show from his incredble amount of quality work on display in his portfolio. Have a look and prepare to drool.

Nicknack

posted in Design, by Damien Aistrope on 16th January 2012 Nicknack

I love seeing Australian design firms do well overseas. Nicknack, who do have quite the reputation for doing Nike work appear to be expanding that US base with their work with Sesame Street. Above is a custom typeface they developed out of plasticine for Bert and Ernie. Lot's more fun to be found on their site. Got to say, I'd switch banks for the work they have done with Rural too.

TAKT

TAKT do killer work. If you're stuck behind a screen downing a cold one like me, take a look at some of their fantastic case studies for yourself. I love what they have done for the iconic brand Volley and their packaging. My mowing shoes never looked so good.

Nice typo rugs (nice collages too) by Sydney based graphic designer Linus Dean, who's said goodbye to his traditional graphic design job to start a rug business!

Illustrated and designed by Melbourne based, Maja Wolnik, this cute A Taste of Poland 2012 calendar takes you on a bi-lingual journey each month, featuring some of Poland's most delicious yet difficult to pronounce dishes such as Dumplings (Pierogi), Doughnuts (Paczki) and Pickled Herring (Sledzie).

The calendar also includes links to Maja's blog where she promises to post the recipe for each dish every month and is available for purchase through Maja's etsy shop.

Scott Kirkman

posted in Art, Design, Digital, by Zann St Pierre on 06th January 2012 Scott Kirkman

Unlike most of us Scott Kirkman has ticked off his first new years resolution, redesigning his website.

The select range of featured works are brimming with character and are definitely worth a look.

fivepointfive

posted in Design, by Damien Aistrope on 04th January 2012 fivepointfive

Whilst working out who to vote for in the SMAC awards (you should too, last day to get them in) I found fivepointfive, FBi's in-house design team. Just like the radio station, it is on a volenteer basis - young designers with a passion for music breathing some colour into the airwaves.
