The Letter D

I might need a late pass for this one, that said, I reckon it might require a second look. The Letter D have a new site that not only looks a treat in your browser, looks pretty sweet on your mobile too.

Maiden Voyage

I adore Jay Chapman's design and illustration work so it was a bit of a nice suprise to see he has skills behind the lens too. This coming Thursday at Mr. Simple in Hawthorn will see Jay present a collection of photographs from South America titled 'Maiden Voyage'. It starts at 6pm and runs until the 1st of March. Perhaps pick yourself up a nice outfit too?

Last night I was browsing through our family ipad when I stumbled on a blog my wife has been reading. Ink Caravan is the blog/journal of Melbourne based Illustrator/Designer, Alisa Coburn.

I was instantly impressed by Alisa's illustrative work and as I delved a little deeper into the site I discovered a book which was published last year titled "Amelia Has Cancer" by Alison Johns. Perhaps being a parent has softened me but never have I seen such a beautiful approach to such a sensitive topic.

With a free moment today do yourself a favour and read through the Ink Caravan.

Drawing Lines in the Sand presents six installation projects that engage with various aspects of Cockatoo Island’s institutional heritage and topography. The exhibition features installations by Julia Davis, Elizabeth Day, Christian Edwardes, Lisa Jones + Derek Allan, Geoff Kleem and Adam Norton.

Visitors can expect an immersive assault on their senses with the chance to explore a virtual reality simulator, take a walk through a forest of scaffolding or descending into a saltmine.

Slax Appeal

posted in Art, Exhibits, by Damien Aistrope on 16th February 2012 Slax Appeal

Long time readers of Infront will know I love a good pun, this exhibition has it in spades. Christopher Nielsen's new show 'Slax Appeal' combines his love of signage and vintage advertising characters and revels in misunderstandings, low budgets, malapropisms, impenetrable ad lingo and the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi. Hot damn.

It's taking place next Thursday the 23rd with our good friends at Lamington Drive.
