Some of you might know I lived in Cairns in FNQ for several years before coming back to the big smoke of Sydney two years ago. I loved my time up there and one of the things I loved most was the DIY spirit of the arts and music community in those parts. Wanted to put on an art show but there wasn't a venue? Hold it at someones house. No where to hear local music? Start a makeshift weekly band night in the back room of a shop. Excellent fun times and something that I really miss about living in small, remote regional town. Massive shout outs to the MOFO and the Crate59 crews!
Seems a lot of the team up there have gotten organised and are taking their DIY scene on the road. Psych-O-Tropica is heading to Melboure on the 5th of September and is showing at MARS Gallery with a diverse range of works and skills. Check their Facebook page here.

From what I've seen so far this looks like a great exhibition (regardless of whether I'm in it or not, ha ha). Looks like they've been documenting it well too, so can't wait to see the pics and vids!
