Graphic Means

Film

My first real introduction to a graphic design studio was way back in 1992. It was my year 10 work experience week in North Sydney at a place called Graphic Associates. I spent the week being amazed at their air brush artists, watching them paste down Letraset with pin point precision and being their bromide boy whilst sneaking in cigarettes where I could. There was one Mac in the studio at the time and I recall the team being scared of it. With graphic design still being a hands on craft at that time, I can understand why.

I still look back on that week with fond memories, so when Graphic Means popped up in my inbox, it brought a smile to my face.

Presented by AGDA, Graphic Means is a new documentary exploring the evolution of graphic design production. It's been almost 30 years since desktop publishing revolutionised the graphics industry, and this film explores the progression from the 50s to this point.

The Australian premiere is in Hobart followed by screenings in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra and Melbourne.
