You might be aware that we are running the Sydney leg of Field Trip this December 7 at the Seymour Centre. If not, you are now!

In the lead up to the event we have asked each of the speakers / performers to answer 10 quick questions so you can get to know them better. First up is the living legend that is Nigel Buchanan. I mean that in all honesty. With clients like The Wall Street Journal, MTV,The New York Times, TIME magazine, Money Week Paris and The Radio Times in London, a quick look at his portfolio, you will see why he is highly sought after around the globe.

1. State your name, location, medium, and the last meal you ate.
Nigel Buchanan, Surry Hills, Sydney, digital, I was told it was a small ploughman's lunch… not many small ploughmen in Surry Hills these days.

2. What are you working on at the moment?
Cover for a startup iPad mag called Backstory. Based in LA pitched at the film industry. and yet another article about Twitter, this time for Runner's World magazine based in NY.

3. Describe the last person you saw do a live talk that really inspired you.

4. Name a tool of the trade which you use, digital or otherwise, that is absolutely essential to your workflow.
Repeater Pencil.

5. What are the top three tracks in your 25 most played iTunes playlist?
Mick Harvey; Out of Time Man Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros; Get Down Moses Lily Allen; Straight to Hell.

6. If you could boil down the most important lesson you've learned as a professional creative to three words, what would they be?
Do good work.

7. What is your favourite website for comic relief?
I so don't have one.

8. Can you tell us a bit about your plans for your Field Trip performance?
I'll walk through an illustration from start to finish whilst dispensing all my illustration secrets.

9. What do you hope the Audience will take away from your presentation?
Partly that the rendering process can be kept simple but mainly that the drawing and planning is the most important part.

10. Who is your daddy and what does he do?
Hmm, no idea what this means but to cover all bases, my father commanded a squadron of Spitfires in WW2 at the age of 21. He's still kicking. My greatest influences are Miroslav Sasek, Edward Gorey, Jim Flora.
