Mmm... I thought that Steve Jobs' open letter, Flash Sucks™ would be enough to send most designers running!
But I second Lynda.

Why? Far, far more people access Flash websites/applications than use iPhone/iPads. And on current trends that's not going to change.
I view it a little like Jobs saying "Microsoft sucks", and then developers deciding not to develop for PCs. Not really that sensible.

I think Flash will die in the next couple of years. If anything remains, it will be a shadow of its former self.

i've taken so long to get off my ass and learn it that it wouldn't suprise me if it died.
some bright spark here at work suggested flash should be used instead powerpoint for presentations -so i was nominated. it took them a year to install it after i'd done my course...

I just really don't see how that would ever come to be, no more than Photoshop disappearing.
Flash can create:
- websites
- we based apps
- standalone apps
- Android apps
- Games
yada yada (a Flash developer can probably add dozens more).
What other single tool can create so much, and with relative ease to a certain level? US figures suggest Apple smartphone penetration has plateaued, with Android now gaining momentum. I don't see that changing, more likely settling back where Apple has roughly 10% of the market as they do with computers. Apple innovate to stay at that 10%, the shear number of alternatives does make a difference, and that won't change with shorter and shorter time frames for "copycat" or similar (and cheaper!) updates from competitors.

I'm a Flash developer and an iOS developer and I personally don't think Flash is going to die any time soon. Maybe for some projects it will become important to developer an HTML version for the iPad/iPhone users (good practise anyway) but I don't think this will kill Flash. Not for many years anyway.

The thing is, a lot of what flash is commonly used to do now can be done by other means. Not all, certainly not the deeper functionality, but a lot of the basic stuff which accounts for the majority of flash on the web can be done with jQuery and HTML/CSS. When CSS3 and HTML5 are adopted on a wider scale, it's going to put a nail in Flash's coffin.
Of course Flash will still have a place, but I imagine its userbase dwindling, not remaining static, or increasing.
I leave you with a couple of examples. Look at these in Safari or Chrome:
