Alberto Santiago
My professional background is based in animation and visual effects, so naturally I'm influenced films and anime, in particular, thrillers. A long-time Alfred Hitchcock fan, I find It fascinating how he tells such a compelling story with as little scene elements as possible, 'Rear Window' and 'Dial M for Murder' for example were shot in a single setting. It reminds me of very early photography where most typically there would be a set stage and the people being photographed had to stand very still for the photo due to the slower ISO film speeds. This added a very haunting like effect to the portraits. Its as though the story was told just from their frozen emotion.
The subjects I paint combine a lot of these elements. Each work evokes a story that rings differently with each person who is looking in.
