Recruitment Fee
Posted 18.09.2017 @ 4.44PM
I have been in a role for around 4mths and received an email from my boss with my payment details. Apparently my recruitment agent is charging me out at $80 an hr and I am getting $50 an hour which equates to 37.5%.
I always thought the rate was 20%. I have a friend that works for $800 a day and recruitment company gets $200.
I had a meeting with my agent around a month ago and he was discussing lifting my rate but I cannot see how this can be achieved given the status quo as that would take me up to agency level rates.
Advise appreciated, it has been good to get work from them but I don't like the idea of getting ripped off. Was gonna ring agent and let him know but ppl seldom admit they are wrong in this kind of a situation.

I work with Thematic and it can be a little tricky adding your own custom php scripts and attaching them to with actions and filters to your functions file.
I some times pull apart templates and drop in my custom PHP code directly into templates.
Also watch out for the jquery no conflict. Any jquery code you will need to use jquery insead of $.
As long as you have areas for any custom fields set up for client and that will work with them then it wont be a problem.

Thanks for feedback the http://www.temando.com/ site looks good. No WP support as yet tho.
I have been checking this product in recent days and it looks very good indeed.
Another great web service to come out of Texas it seems with fantastic support.
It has calculators that actually work (for multiple items and an Australia Post Calculator) + multi currency + very affordable too. Think I will be sticking with this one as opposed to some of the WP plugins used for ecommerce.

I know many designers who rely on the completely to make a living.
My experience is they are just a waste of skin.
They're all over you when they see you can make them money and don't want to know when you don't.
I've been head hunted in the past by them and they have just wasted my time and are full of sh@t.
On the most part they are just re-titled sales people that usually have little knowledge of the industry.
That's just my experience.

I don't mind the recruitment agent getting their 20% but mine is almost 37.5%. That's almost double. I have been in the industry for almost 15 years and there is always work its just a matter of with who. If you think $50 is a good rate minus annual holidays then go figure.
