RE: Weekly Rate vs. hourly rate - what is fair? on 10th May 2011 @ 8.13 PM in Discussion

Thanks for the input guys, it is appreciated.

I hardly ever take hour lunch breaks - is that not normal?

::Usually a 40 hr week. Realistically speaking should only able to work 6 billable hours a day if you're working on a project for an extended period. Also, on the odd occasion I've also negotiated overtime for working after 6pm.

Hang on, are you saying that you would only charge for 6 hours, even though you are on their premises for a full 8 hours (minus lunch break, of course)

Yeah, this project actually specifies a working day that would equal a 50 hour working week... a different kettle of fish again. :/

::Looking back at my hourly vs daily/weekly rates, I offered 12.5% reduction for projects longer than 2 weeks.

Generally I didn't like Daily rates, particularly when companies decide not to commit to a full week of work and leaves you out of pocket.::

Was this based on a 40 hour week, or 37.5, as some have suggested?

Ah, cool, thanks for the tip Hairycow.

And yes, being left out of pocket after giving what essentially equates to a 'discount' stings more than just a bit.

As it does when people cancel a booking for the following week at 5pm Friday - just after you have declined two offers of work for the following week. :/

::"I generally charge the same regardless if its an hour, day, or week. Daily rate / 8 for hour, daily rate x 5 for weekly. From reading this I am thinking I should add a percentage to my hourly rate hrm."

Yeah, I think it implied that they want a cheaper rate when asking for a 'week' rate.

I'm thinking something equal to between 80-90% of my hourly rate would be fine, right?
