RE: Movie poster design trends on 24th January 2012 @ 2.50 PM in Discussion
You're just lucky the guy stopped before doing a "Faces Photoshopped Onto A Pair Of Rusty Old Scissors" category.
I'm sure I saw this pre- Dec 2011, maybe the guy's borrowed someone else's blog? There was also one a bigger while back with all the films that use Trajan. Many of them.
I reckon a couple of overexcited stoners locked in a videoshop overnight decided to arrange all the video covers into groups.
RE: "Job" ads on AIF that should be banned. on 12th January 2012 @ 7.37 PM in Discussion
I put it down to how much profit they're making at the end of the day. If owners are running an exploitation racket and raking it in, they should pay all workers, even graduates who need experience.
If they're doing it tight for whatever reason, if someone wants to learn there and work free for a while, as long as the studio is giving them meaningful work, roughly equal trade (or even balanced in designers favour) of educational situation to processing orders.... then woo, good for them. A bit of give give win win without money having to change hands. Suck on that Wayne Swan.
This is all of course impossible for most people to measure and I dont expect a design studio to post their P & L statement with every free job ad SO I reckon whatever, let chaos reign, and leave it to Karma.
Maybe design a leaflet on the moral horrors of designer exploitation and post them out to all the studios.
RE: Like button on news on 12th January 2012 @ 7.22 PM in Discussion
Hey what about putting a like button or similar on the news articles. There's some great news about sweet projects come thru there but the only option is to start a thread about it or share to your networks. Might be a nice way to high five any news you dig. Or it might turn into a news popularity contest, which wouldn't be good.
An idea. x
RE: Saying no to client jobs on 20th December 2011 @ 6.33 PM in Discussion
Yeah, pretty much you say can't do this one and they'll find someone who can. Then next time that person is probbably going to be the one they go to. Thems the trade offs. We do quite a few jobs that we don't want to do, but to hold onto a usually decent client.

RE: Plagiarism on 24th January 2012 @ 2.56 PM in Discussion
my first tshirt design job was to take the designs the opther applicants had done (they made us design at the interview) and do them up for printing. I dont think any moral issue occurred to the bosses at all. To them the design is there, use it.
